When One Door Closes... (Part 2) was the eighteenth episode of A Different World's sixth season, the 137th overall episode in the series. Part two and the conclusion of a two-episode story, the episode, which was written by Susan Fales and directed by Debbie Allen, was first broadcasted on NBC-TV on May 8, 1993.

Summary[]

Dwayne accepts the job in Tokyo; Kimberly gets engaged; friends reconcile.

Storyline[]

It's official, Dwayne and Whitley are expecting a baby, Kimberly and Spencer are engaged and Dwayne's new job means they're moving to Japan! Things get complicated by the meddling, future grandmoms, who aren't so pleased about the Japan move. They expect to run their future grandchild's life and can't do it long distance! To make matters worse, Ron plans to sue Dwayne since he feels Dwayne stole his computer game idea to use in his business deal. The two buddies almost come to blows and Ron doesn't attend Dwayne and Whitley's farewell party on campus. Everyone else is there to reminisce about their years together and celebrate Kim and Spencer's future. Finally, as Whitley and Dwayne leave their home for the last time, Ron approaches them to make amends.

  • Note: Originally intended to serve as the series finale episode, it instead aired on May 8, 1993, the second part of a two episode story arc. the episode "College Kid" served as the finale episode (#25), airing on July 10, 1993.
